Nigel had a successful 22-year career as a Royal Marine, travelling the world during times of both peace-keeping and conflict. In the final years of his military service, he prepared for a second career, embarking in his ‘spare time’ on an Open University degree in Design and Material Science – this sometimes involved studying in snowholes in Norway and in the melting heat of an American desert.  On retirement from the forces,  Nigel qualified as a secondary school teacher, delivering the Design Technology curriculum.  He established strong links with business and industry, guiding students through the Engineering Education Scheme.  Extra-curricular activities included being a leader and assessor for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and in his local community he gave his time as a voluntary Cubs leader.  Nigel is now back in uniform, leading a Combined Cadet Force for an education trust, providing a range of military-themed experiences and equipping cadets with essential life skills. Alongside that work, he is a Physical First Aid Instructor and Assessor, providing training within the education trust and in other real-life settings.
